ASHEBORO, NC – The entire North Carolina Zoo will reopen Saturday. The Africa Region had been closed due to severe damage caused by a microburst with high winds and hail. Exhibits in the zoo’s Africa Region were more heavily impacted due to the dozens of fallen trees.

Exhibits in the zoo’s North America Region along with Dino World and the Aviary reopened earlier this week. Since only half of the zoo was open, the zoo charged half price for admission. Saturday when the entire zoo reopens admission prices will return to full price.

“Our staff has worked diligently to clean and remove all debris that was inside of exhibits, on service roads and trails throughout the park. The safety of our visitors, animals and employees is always our first priority,” said Dr. David Jones, director of the zoo.”

For information on daily operational status, the public can visit the zoo’s website at www.nczoo.org or call 1-800-488-0444.

The North Carolina Zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Donald R. van der Vaart, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
