ASHEBORO, NC -  The Heart of North Carolina Visitors Bureau and Petty Family Foundation is proud to join forces to sponsor Operation North State’s 1st Annual Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival. The festival will take place on Tuesday, May 19th from 8 am to 5 pm (rain or shine) at Randleman Lake. The event and coordinating activities are being staged at the Randleman Lake Marina, 7123 Adams Farm Road, Randleman.

The goal of the festival is to honor North Carolina’s Wounded Warriors and Disabled Veterans. The King, Richard Petty, and other local area officials and celebrities will be there in the afternoon as boats return to the marina to sign autographs, shake hands, and thank the veterans for their service.

Fishing licenses are being provided by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. The fishing hosts will provide their boats, expertise, and all tackle and equipment needed. Participants can fish for either bass or crappie. Each boat can accommodate one fishing host, one veteran, and one caregiver. Admission is FREE for the first 50 veterans who register.

Randleman Lake is located on the Deep River, part of the Cape Fear River basin. The lake is surrounded by a natural buffer of nearly 3,000 acres with a lake surface of 3,007 acres, and 100 miles of beautiful shoreline. Managed by the Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority, the lake is open to the general public annually from March through November offering recreation activities including boating, fishing, paddleboats, and picnicking.
