ASHEBORO, NC — Spring into the North Carolina Zoo to celebrate Bear Necessities on Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., in the zoo’s North America region.

Kids are invited to bring their favorite stuffed bear to a teddy bear clinic where veterinarians will do a wellness check and re-stitch bears in need of repairs. At 11 a.m., outside of the grizzly bear exhibit there will be a camp site destruction, which will be visual and will allow zoo visitors to learn safety tips that will help them if a bear approaches their campsite.

Throughout the day zoo guests can meet a zoo keeper and ask questions about bears. There will be keeper talks and activities at the zoo’s black bear, polar bear and grizzly bear exhibits. Plus, musicians will be at the zoo performing live music and dance in North America Plaza and Junction Plaza.

In preparation for Bear Necessities, April 9, a member of the zoo’s education department will participate in the Sunset Cultural Series at the Sunset Theatre in downtown Asheboro. At 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., there will be discussions regarding polar bears and a changing planet. For more information visit the zoo’s website www.nczoo.org.

The North Carolina Zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Donald R. van der Vaart, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
