Sunset Cultural Series Kicks off 2015

Sunset Cultural Series Kicks off 2015 Sunset Cultural Series events will run from January through May 2015.

Asheboro, NC - The new year will also mark the launch of a new initiative to designed connect people to a broad range of cultural experiences from live music and theatre to thought provoking lectures and discussion. The Sunset Cultural Series will highlight some of the best cultural events and activities taking place in the community by featuring them in Downtown Asheboro's Historic Sunset Theatre and by promoting them through a collective marketing effort. The Sunset Cultural Series is a collaborative effort between the Randolph Arts Guild, the City of Asheboro, the North Carolina Zoo, Randolph Community College, Randolph Community Concerts Association, the Randolph County Public Library, the Friends of the Randolph County Public Library and RSVP Community Theatre.  The goals are to increase awareness of, attendance to and participation in the cultural events being held in the community; to connect and cross-pollinate audiences and to fully utilize the resources of the Sunset Theatre. 

According to Derrick Sides, the Executive Director of the Randolph Arts Guild, “The idea came about as way to connect members of our community to the many cultural opportunities that are already taking place. The events being featured are typically just one of many similar events that our partner agencies are providing throughout the year.  The hope is that people will come out a get taste for the richness of cultural life “Right Here in Randolph County.” 

The series kicks off in January with performances by the American Shakespeare Center hosted by the City of Asheboro following by a performance by pianist Paul Saik presented by the Randolph County Community Concerts Association.  February will spotlight RSVP Community Theatre’s production of “Steel Magnolias”.  During the month of March, the Randolph Arts Guild invites the public to attend the Lectures associated with its NC Potters Conference and plans to treat the community to and avant garde musical performance titled “Time Constraints” by artist Mark Dixon.  In April the NC Zoo will present Polar Bears and a Changing Planet and Randolph Community College as part of its own cultural series will feature Dance performance Salem College.  Finally the series concludes in May with an evening with "The Fabulous Beekman Boys" hosted by the Friends of the Randolph County Public Library.
