Asheboro Copperheads Baseball Opens 2015 Season at Home

Posted on 10/13/14

Asheboro, NC - The Asheboro Copperheads will open their 17th season in the Coastal Plain League in 2015 by hosting the league’s most recent addition, the Holly Springs Salamanders, on Tuesday night, May 26 at McCrary Park.

The Copperheads will once again play 28 home games against CPL foes and the same number of road games as they once again compete in the league’s West Division. Although the expansion Salamanders are in the East Division, the Copperheads will play them five times next summer, while playing all other East foes just once. Two‐time defending Petitt Cup champion Peninsula will visit McCrary Park on Tuesday, July 7.

The 56‐game schedule will feature 44 games against West foes, including 12 matchups with arch‐rival High Point‐Thomasville. Asheboro will play Martinsville, Florence and Forest City eight times each and both Gastonia and Lexington County (formerly Columbia) four times.

After the opener at home on May 26, the Copperheads will travel to Martinsville the following night to tangle with the Mustangs and return home on Thursday, May 28 to take on the High Point‐Thomasville Hi‐Toms. They have an open date on the first Friday night of the season, then will travel to Florence on Saturday, May 30 to wrap up the first week of action.

The home schedule will include five consecutive Saturday night games beginning on June 13 when the Wilson Tobs come to town. One of those Saturday dates will be July 4 when the Salamanders pay one of their three visits to McCrary Park. As in past years, the big Fourth of July fireworks show will follow immediately after the game.

The Copperheads will play seven Tuesday night home games, five times on both Monday and Thursday, four times on Friday and twice at home on Wednesday. Asheboro will play three Sunday games, but all on the road against the Hi‐Toms. They will wrap up the first half of the season with a home game vs. the Salamanders on Monday, June 29, then begin the second half the following night at home vs. the Petersburg Generals. The regular season will close with a home game against Martinsville on Monday, Aug. 3.

The CPL All‐Star game will be played Monday night, July 13 in Florence, S.C. The league’s playoff format will remain unchanged with four teams from each division advancing to the Petitt Cup playoffs, which will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
