Jill McCorkle, one of North Carolina most celebrated writers, will keynote the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting. Author of 10 novels or story collections, McCorkle had the distinction of having her first two novels -- ''The Cheerleader'' and ''July 7th'' -- published simultaneously in 1984. Her recent novels include ''Tending to Virginia'' and ''Life After Life.'' Five of her books have been named New York Times notable books. She has received the John Dos Passos Prize for Excellence in Literature and the North Carolina Award for Literature among other honors. She resides in Hillsborough. The Friends meeting is free and the public is invited.
